Why are there fireworks in Perth tonight?

It seems like there are always fireworks going off in Perth*. This blog answers the question: 'Why tonight?'.

The mystery fireworks on Saturday night were for a Curtin University graduation ceremony. There will be some tonight, too (about 9pm).
